Custom Roller and Needle Bearing Manufacturing

CPM designs and manufactures special, custom-made roller and needle bearings based on customer drawings, providing high-precision mechanical solutions engineered to meet the specific requirements of each industrial application.

Production is entirely focused on customised components, enabling CPM to develop the ideal bearing configuration for every project.

Thanks to its highly flexible and versatile manufacturing system, CPM can handle both high-volume production and small batches with limited quantities.

Types of Roller and Needle Bearings Manufactured by CPM

CPM’s roller bearing range includes several bearing configurations, each designed to meet specific load, speed and installation-space requirements:

  • Cylindrical roller bearings and needle roller bearings
  • Crossed roller bearings
  • Tapered roller bearings

All CPM roller bearing types are available within an extensive dimensional range, extending from a minimum bore diameter of 10 mm to a maximum outside diameter of 800 mm.

Cylindrical Roller Bearings and Needle Roller Bearings

Cylindrical roller bearings and needle roller bearings can be manufactured in single-row or multi-row configurations, either as full-complement bearings or with a spacing cage.

  • Load capacity: these bearings are designed primarily to support radial loads, including very high radial loads.
  • Full-complement versions: available in single-row or multi-row configurations, they maximise the number of rolling elements within the available installation space and are suitable for moderate rotational speeds.
  • Caged versions: designed to support high radial loads while also allowing operation at higher rotational speeds.
  • Surface treatments and coatings: Depending on the application requirements, protective or functional coatings such as chrome plating, phosphating, zinc plating, or black oxide can be applied.
Cylindrical and needle roller bearings are primarily manufactured from:

Through-hardened chromium bearing steel
Case-hardening steel
Minimum bore diameter: 10 mm
Maximum outside diameter: 800 mm
  • Planetary gearboxes
  • Textile machinery

Crossed Roller Bearings

Crossed roller bearings are high-performance mechanical components used in applications requiring high levels of kinematic accuracy, structural precision and stiffness.

  • Combined load capacity: crossed roller bearings can support radial loads, axial loads in both directions and overturning moments.
  • Advantages over four-point contact bearings: they provide load-carrying capabilities similar to four-point contact bearings while offering improved smoothness, stiffness and rotational accuracy.
Crossed roller bearings can be manufactured from chromium bearing steel using:

Through-hardening
Case-hardening
Induction-hardening processes
Minimum bore diameter: 10 mm
Maximum outside diameter: 800 mm
  • Machine tools
  • Robotics

Tapered Roller Bearings

Tapered roller bearings feature inclined raceways designed to ensure the correct geometric contact with the tapered rollers.

They can be manufactured in single-row or double-row configurations.

  • Load capacity and bearing arrangement: tapered roller bearings can support high combined radial and axial loads. Single-row versions must always be used together with a second bearing, usually mounted in opposition.
  • Retaining cage: the internal construction always includes a cage, generally made of metal, to maintain the correct alignment and spacing of the rollers.
  • Rotational speed: their design enables operation at high rotational speeds.
Tapered roller bearings can be manufactured from chromium bearing steel using:

Through-hardening
Case-hardening
Induction-hardening processes
Minimum bore diameter: 10 mm
Maximum outside diameter: 800 mm
  • Mechanical gearboxes
  • Axles

Frequently Asked Questions About Roller and Needle Bearings

CPM designs and manufactures cylindrical roller bearings, needle roller bearings, crossed roller bearings and tapered roller bearings, supplying exclusively special, custom-made solutions.
CPM roller bearings are available within a dimensional range extending from a minimum bore diameter of 10 mm to a maximum outside diameter of 800 mm.

Full-complement bearings maximise the number of rolling elements within the available installation space, allowing them to support very high radial loads at moderate rotational speeds.

Caged versions can also support high radial loads while operating at higher rotational speeds.

Crossed roller bearings can support radial loads, axial loads in both directions and overturning moments.

They also provide high stiffness, excellent rotational accuracy and smoother operation.
